My trip plan was to do the Bell-Balsam-David Loop at Killarney. However, when I arrived to pick up my permit, the attendant at the Bell Lake launch point told me that he wasn’t comfortable having me head up Bell. The wind was high and Bell was rife with whitecaps and rolling waves. He told me that they’d already had two solos go over and one “big beefy six-foot guy” turn around as he couldn’t make headway. I was rerouted through to Johnnie and told that I had the entire lake to myself. Surreal!
