Alexander Kirkwood – farmer author, civil servant. 1885 recommended the townships in Nipissing District (headwaters of the Muskoka, Petawawa. Bonnechere and Madawaska) be set aside as “Algonkin Forest and Park”. Published a letter in which added recreation and protection of game to the management of forest and conserving of watershed as rational for the project. 1892 was appointed chairman of royal commission to select townships required for the park.and to set policy for its management.
