2017 – 5 Years Of Wilderness Adventures

Open Summer of 2017Paddle In The Park: A 5 Year Celebration of Nature

No, it’s not summer yet. Sorry! But for those of you who are eagarly anticipating the start of the Paddle In The Park Contest season, and the 5th year anniversary of the PITPC, we do have a small preseason preview to help you get your “papers” in order.

Since 2013, the PITPC has been advocating to get more people to spend time in nature. And while the contest has evolved over the years, the one thing that has not changed is the fact that the #RewardsAreOutThere. However, 2015 marks a special year for the PITPC. Thus, we have updated the paperwork for our 5 year anniversary celebration with 5 new images (for families, for those who have canoeing canines, and for those who prefer to go solo). Choose and print your favourite by clicking on the image/link of your choosing below… or download and print them all!

Tip: Laminate your favourite PITPC Flag design after printing to help ensure it lasts for all your adventures. For those of you looking to do an iron transfer of any of the designs onto a t-shirt as a fun home project to do with the kids, just contact by email (or via any one of our social media channels) for a one colour image if needed.

While we can’t say too much else just yet, other than we promise we won’t make you try pemmican, for those of you paying attention, you may have noticed that we have already given away some visual clues as to this year’s special anniversary theme. But to get you started even further, we have a few Bonus Paddle Points Tasks for you to complete while we get our gear and paddle hiding plans ready (and wait for the northern ice to melt). See the pre-season Paddle Points Tasks below (there are 5 of them; one for every year the PITPC has been “Out There”!)…

Preseason Preview • Paddle Points Tasks for 2017

Note: The following tasks will be part of the NEW official PITPC Task List of 2017 with the point value and category of each previewed task to be revealed when the contest starts and the full Task List is published this summer. You will also be able to upload the following Paddle Points Task photos to this website for entry when the contest officially opening this summer.

Is It Summer Yet? Task: Canoe trips, while not as gruelling as they were in the days of the fur trader, can be physically demanding and mentally exhausting for any modern day voyageur. What do you personally do to keep fit and ready for the canoe tripping season over the off season? Hikei or Snowshoe? Hit the gym? Shop for new gear? Attend a canoeing or outdoor adventure-themed symposium? Take a photo of yourself or a friend portraying your method (even if your method is nothing more than sitting in a comfortable chair, in front of the fire, with a mug of something hot in one hand and a book of wilderness tales in the other). Just make sure to include your 2017 paperwork (PITPC Flag or our official hashtag: #RewardsAreOutThere) to ensure you maximize your Paddle Points!

Show Us Your Best Bannock Task: More popular than Pemmican, Bannock has stayed on as a traditional (and delicious) part of many wilderness menus. Show us your best Bannock or outdoor (camping) recipe with a photo of your finished product. Just make sure to include your 2017 paperwork (PITPC Flag or our official hashtag: #RewardsAreOutThere) to ensure you maximize your Paddle Points!

Hug A Ranger Task: And old task favourite, you must take a (selfie or group) photo with an official Park Ranger (or any Park Staff in uniform) to complete this task. Just make sure to include your 2017 paperwork (PITPC Flag or our official hashtag: #RewardsAreOutThere) to ensure you maximize your Paddle Points!

Trading Post Pop In Task(s):  While this task will actually be broken up into several tasks as part of our usual list of Sponsor Spotlight tasks, this is a great chance to get ahead of the Paddle Points competition. Another old task favourite, supporting our sponsors (past and present) is a wonderful way to ensure our local outfitters and businesses thrive and survive. Just visit a PITPC sponsor’s location, trade-show booth, or presentation, and take a photo (selfie or otherwise) while you are there. But make sure to include your 2017 paperwork (PITPC Flag or our official hashtag: #RewardsAreOutThere) to ensure you maximize your Paddle Points!

Cabin Fever Task: Is the city getting to you? Do you wish you were lakeside right now? Show us your best cabin fever face at home or at work (can be a selfie or group photo). Just make sure to include your 2017 paperwork (PITPC Flag or our official hashtag: #RewardsAreOutThere) to ensure you maximize your Paddle Points!
